Well, I also heard her last night on the radio as we were driving home from Valdosta. She pretty much rocked my world with a few simple "resolutions" that she stated from her new book. If you've seen the movie, Courageous, it follows along with that theme. She basically wrote 13 resolutions for women and she shared them last night.
The first one she shared she said was the hardest one to do (I agree!) and that it was for everyone...single, married, moms. I NEEDED to hear it. Hands down, it is what I struggle with most these days. I wish she would do a whole study on this. I would be the first to sign up!
1. A Resolution To Be Content. I do solemnly resolve to embrace my current season of life, and will maximize my time in it. I will resist the urge to hurry through or circumvent any portion of my journey but will live with a spirit of contentment.
She mentioned several scenarios that went along with this resolution...wanting to get married, struggling to get pregnant, being a mother to young children, etc.
The other one was equally perfect for me to hear. She actually elaborated on both resolutions, but I wouldn't do them justice. So, I'm simply going to state them and add a sentence or two. :)
5. A Resolution To Devote My Best to God’s Priorities For Me. I will seek to devote the best of myself, my time, and my talents to the primary roles the Lord has entrusted to me in this phase of my life.
She spoke about overcommittment and perfectionism. We, as women, think that everything that we give or do has to be perfect and our schedules have to be filled to capacity, leaving us overwhelmed and exhausted. Basically, don't stretch yourself too thin. But instead just choose a few priorities and give your all and do your best for the Lord to just a few things. Simple, yet hard to say "no" or give things up. In my case anyway. :)
I'm enjoying my last day of Fall Break being lazy, doing laundry, and entering in report card grades. It is gloomy and windy out...feels like Halloween! :)
Romans 8:28 (The Message)
Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God's Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don't know how or what to pray, it doesn't matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That's why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.
