I knew that her party would have to do with anchors because I've always been drawn to verses and songs with the word anchor in them and He was my anchor all through out my pregnancy and is the anchor of our lives. Plus she's a summer baby! Perfection! Yes, even our nurse gifts had anchors on them.
I was a little worried about summer thunderstorms, but it was a beautiful day and didn't rain until about 6pm. It was the best day, not too hot! All of our family came down for it! The times that we have everyone in our little town together are the ones I cherish the most! It's so special! We also had plenty of balloons and balls out for the birthday girl! I loved having her toys all over the yard for kids to play with. We had chalk, bubbles, and big kid toys out in the driveway. There were a lot of meaningful little details all throughout her party. Pink flowers and hydrangeas just like Matt gave me in the hospital, a special tablecloth that we will use year after year, and we started her Little Golden Book collection for guests to sign. I also made a book with pictures from her first birthday in the hospital. :) I set that out with her baby book.
The party started at 11:00 because our back yard was covered in shade and that gave MC a chance to nap from 9-11. I was dressing her as guests arrived! Molly Caroline wore a smocked seersucker anchor dress that was light pink, white, and navy...and navy sandals. She had on seersucker Beaufort Bonnet Company bloomers monogrammed in navy underneath. :) Jonahs Fish and Grits catered the lunch..YUM! We served shrimp and grits, fruit boats, seashell pasta salad, sailor sandwiches, chips, and dip. Goldfish, koozies, sailor hats were the favors. We had water with lemon and pink lemonade with blueberries to drink in mason jars.
After eating we did the smash cake. Molly Caroline just kind of picked at it...but she liked it for sure! Mrs. Pam always makes all of her kids birthday cakes, and it was beautiful and so good! We also served blue bell Krazy cookie dough ice cream in little striped cups to help guests to cool off while we opened gifts!
Most guests stayed long after the party was over. Everyone just kind of hung out, some shopped downtown, the babies played, and then the tired birthday girl got in another nap! That was another perk of having it early! Everyone that stuck around went to Moonspin for dinner that night! It was laid back and so much fun!
I felt like our celebration was perfect for our summer baby!
